Our primary focus is for students to succeed in academics to be prepared for college and their life after St. Bernard. Academics must be the priority of the high school experience. Please help the teachers by reiterating the importance of turning in assignments on time, studying for quizzes and tests, and continuing to show respect to classmates and teachers in the classroom. Academics must take priority over any other student activities. Students must maintain a 2.0 in order to be eligible to participate in sports, clubs and other activities.

Academic counselors are there to advocate for students and to make sure they are successful in their classes, take the right classes, and ensure they are on track to graduate and get into college. They ensure that students are aware of their own personal responsibility while helping be a liaison between parents and teachers. Please note the Academic Counselors for each grade:

D and F Grades
Any class in which a student earns a D or F grade must be remediated in summer school. The class must be taken in summer school and passed with a C or better. For more information, please feel free to contact your child's academic counselor.
PowerSchool is an essential tool for parents to see students' grades, assignments, comments on grades and class information in real time. Please download the PowerSchool App and enter the District code: GQPW for St. Bernard High School. Once logged in, you can opt to receive notifications when grades are posted.
Learning management systems (LMS) are used to help centralize all information and assignments for each class. Teachers use Google Classroom for their classes to post assignments, announcements, and other important information. Please make sure your child is enrolled in a Google classroom for all their classes. Parents may also choose to receive newsletter notifications from Google Classroom. Please check your emails and make sure you have accepted an invite from a teacher.
Attention Parents: Though technology can be used for academic purposes, it can also be used to waste time on social media and other activities. It is advised that parents limit screen time by taking electronics away from students once it is time for bed. Take the phone, tablet or laptop and any device that can access social media or messaging and lock it up in your room. Make sure students get a good night sleep and are not tempted to stay up late. Limit screen time and make sure to check their homework for completion if it is done online. Studies show that people sleep better and generally lead healthier lives if they do not bring electronics to the bed and read off their phone before sleeping. Monitor what your child is watching and looking through. Teach them Digital Citizenship basics/netiquette such as: not engaging in "fights" online, trolling, not meeting "online friends" in person, or spending too much time on social media. iPads and Laptops
School-issued iPads are for school use only. Students are not allowed to have any games or unauthorized apps installed onto these iPads. They are monitored by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the technology specialist. Any student caught with non-academic apps and/or games will be issued a detention or have the iPad confiscated.
Any student who has an iPad or laptop for a class (non-school issued), is under the school WiFi and must be in compliance with the Acceptable Use Policy. Any person caught playing games, on social media, Snapchatting or doing other non-academic activities will have their device confiscated and be subject to disciplinary action. Devices will only be released to the parent in the Main Office.
